Jesus, A Disciples Search by Fr. Murray Bodo, OFM

“I needed a voice to match the voice of my own searching, and that was the voice I heard vibrating in Nathanael’s words, ‘Can anything good come from Nazareth?’… And so I huddled beneath an imaginary fig tree near the Sea of Galilee, which I have never seen… I became Nathanael beneath his tree, and he became me and all of us who cannot see Jesus but want to so intensely.” –Murray Bodo

    The Inner Journey

Posted by David Hajduk on Apr 11th 2018

Written in an ancient form of writing called "sense lines," the author Murray Bodo takes us on the inner journey of a disciple of Jesus, as he creatively places himself in the person of Nathaneal and writes from his perspective. Thus, we are led to experience the events of the Gospel and the disciple's encounter with Jesus of Nazareth "from the inside out," as we become privy to the disciple's thoughts, feelings, and reactions. In the reading of these inner experiences, vulnerabilities, questionings, self-doubts, self-honesty, and movements of the heart, it is as if we own them, as if they are ours, as if we are the ones sharing our own pilgrimage of the heart and mind. Allow yourself to become the one whose words these are, see your own inner journey in them, and you just may find that powerful encounter of the living God in Christ you have been searching for.
